Dancing Dala
This original toy is a combination of the Appalachian limberjack and the Swedish Dala Horse.
The Dala is the national symbol of Sweden and has been around for generations originating in the small town of Dalarna Sweden. They were hand carved and painted during the long winters to pass the time.
Some were left plain but others were painted with bright colors and given to children as toys. They are still hand painted the traditional way.
The origin of the limberjack is more difficult to trace though most likely from the British Isles. They imitate the ,limber, cloggers who danced in wooden soled shoes on cobbled streets to the tune of a fiddle.
Used as a percussion instrument in the early American Appalachians to accompany the happy fiddle, banjo, dulcimer music that rang through the hills, its whimsical click clacking still entertains today as it has for generations.
This Dancer, is 6 inches at the withers, and his spring board stage is 31 inches long
My Swedish heritage and Carolyn's Scotch, Irish, English, (& Italian) heritage have combined to produce the original......DANCING DALA.
He can be your Holiday delight for $53.99 and $8.99 priority mail
